Dennis Farris was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. From an early age he expressed a keen interest in art and it was this passion that helped him win a scholarship to Central Missouri State University for his undergraduate degree in art.

Soon after graduating, Dennis moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1988 and began his career as a freelance illustrator. His work included art for everything from advertising campaigns to Shakespeare in the Park posters. Throughout this time, he continued honing his skills as an oil painter; experimenting with various subjects, styles and techniques.  It was not until he began studying The Hudson River School of artists that he discovered his passion for realistic landscapes.

Dennis’ work focuses on the grandeur and atmosphere of the Western landscape.  Although most of his work has been centered in the Southwest, he has found the wide open spaces in Texas to be a favorite subject.  Many of his paintings are set in West Texas and include Big Bend National Park, the Devils River, and the Hill Country.

He was awarded the February, 2010 Artist in Residence for Zion National Park in which he lived and painted in the park for the entire month.  To see more of his work, please visit his website
