Michelle Dunaway has been drawing ever since she can remember. As a young child she was captivated with drawing people and that passion continues to this day. "Capturing the essence of the human spirit fascinates me" Dunaway says," whether it is found in the graceful movements of the human form or in the eyes of the model. There is a whole story waiting to be found and retold through color, brushwork, and paint". Dunaway studied at a young age at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California . In recent years Michelle has honed her skill by painting with some of the great representational master painters of our time such as Morgan Weistling, Jeremy Lipking, and Richard Schmid. Dunaway’s work consists of painterly representational figures and was featured in Southwest Art Magazine's 21 under 31 issue as one of the 21 emerging artists of the United States. Recently her art was featured in the book Strokes of Genius 2: Light and Shadow. Dunaway's paintings and drawings have been exhibited in shows at Morseburg Galleries, West Hollywood CA; Wendt Galleries, Laguna Beach CA, and Brandon Michael Fine Art, Santa Fe NM. Until her recent move back to the southwest, Dunaway worked and lived in southern California where she pursued painting full time as well as taught figure painting at the famed California Art Institute and the Los Angeles Academy of figurative Art. She was also asked to teach a workshop for American Artist Magazine's art method and materials show. Dunaway's art was recently featured in American Artist Workshop Magazine, spring 2010 . Michelle's painting was a finalist this year in the annual Portrait Society of America's International Portrait Competition 2010 and was awarded the Exceptional Merit Award. Her work is included in numerous private collections.
