Patricia Guzmán
aims to capture in canvas the native people’s essence.
She frequently travels to indigenous communities to
really get to know them so she can later paint in her
studio in Mexico City, the truth, honor and beauty that
these people hold since times immemorial. She rescues
their image for posterity, dignifying and honoring her
roots through esthetics and realism.
“Defragmentation” is another series of paintings she is
developing heavily influenced in psychology, where she
explores the human nature and condition. Through these
paintings she tries to confront the viewer with their
own reality that ultimately we all share as human
beings.
She learned to paint with her dad, who is a painter and
sculptor since she was a kid. She has taken drawing and
painting lessons with artists she admires; however
learning on her own has been her path through the years,
with books, studying paintings at museums and constant
experimentation.
Her work has been recipient of numerous recognition such
as Janice and Mayur Pioneer in Realism Award at the 6th
Annual Show of the International Guild of Realism, 1st
Prize in the 4th Mexican Watercolor Society Annual
Exhibit 2011, published at the book SPLASH 13: Best of
Watercolor Series, Honorable Mention in the exhibit
Mexican Icons – Mexican Watercolor Society, finalist in
the challenge Favorite Subjects by the International
Artist Magazine, published in the magazine Mundo Equino
that reaches Latin America and Spain, among others. Her
work hangs in private collections in Mexico, USA,
Canada, Belgium, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
